Schools

Founded in 1958, the School of Music is one of the pillars of Shandong University of Arts. It is authorized to grant master's degrees and is a national master's degree-granting site and a recommended pilot site for exemption from examination. Additionally, it is a strengthening construction unit for doctoral degree conferment. The school adheres to a central focus on teaching, research, and artistic practice, forming its own disciplinary advantages and educational characteristics. Among these, the music performance and musicology majors are selected as National First-class Undergraduate Major development sites. There are 82 faculty and staff members including 8 professors and 40 associate professors. 34 instructors hold (or are in the process of acquiring) doctoral degrees, and 46 hold (or are in the process of acquiring) master's degrees. This forms a teaching staff with a reasonable age structure and solid professional competency. There are 809 undergraduate students and 242 graduate students currently enrolled in the School of Music.

Areas of Study

(1) Bachelor's degrees: composition and compositional techniques theory, musicology, music performance (voice, strings and winds, Chinese traditional instruments, and piano);

(2) Master's degrees: academic degree areas include music history and theory studies, and compositional techniques theory studies. Applied degree areas include voice (classical and folk), Western strings, winds, and percussion performance, Chinese instrumental performance, keyboard performance, and composition.
